Rwanda is a Birdwatchers' Paradise with 703 Species with several new species added to the country list since 2010, 29 Albertine Rift endemics with diverse habitats and the best montane birding in Africa. Rwanda contains the highest concentration of birds per square kilometer in Africa, being a small country with an area cover of just 26,338 square kilometers. Rwanda has a diversity of habitats from the mountainous forests of the Albertine Rift, to the many wetlands and the savannah of Akagera National Park. The compact nature of the country, its safety and excellent road network means travel to these different areas is quick and easy. The majority of the country is around 1500 meters above sea level meaning the climate is pleasant year-round.

Rwanda offers the best montane bird watching in Africa and boasts the second highest number of Albertine Rift Endemic species. These are best seen in Rugezi Marsh, Nyungwe Forest National Park Volcanoes National Park and Gishwati Mukura National Park. Of these special endemic birds, Rwanda is the only safe place to see the charming Red-collared Babbler. The wetlands of Bugesera District and the savannah of Akagera National Park support an entirely different range of species including some localised papyrus specialists and the Red-faced Barbet. In addition to stunning birdlife, Akagera National Park also offers excellent game viewing.

Best times to visit Rwanda for Bird watching is year round with Palearctic migrants various species present October to April, Intra-African Migrants various species present May to October.
