Kibale is located in the western part of Uganda. The forest is 775kms 45% tropical woodland, 40% grassland 15% swamp vegetation the most common trees species being the Wild Rubber trees, Polita Figs which support flora and fauna.
Kibale Forest National Park is also known as the Primate Capital as it is home to 13 primates including chimpanzees, gray-cheeked cartoons, red-tailed macaques, blue monkeys, olive baboons, monochrome colobus, hest monkeys and vervet monkeys. Chimpanzee trekking is one of the main activities in Kibale Forest National Park. Venture into the rainforest to find a familiar chimpanzee family, and when you find one, spend an hour with him in their natural environment. Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest starts early witha briefing at the Kanichu Visitor Center. After a briefing, trek through the woods with a Park guide who is familiar with chimpanzee trekking trails. A chimpanzee trek in Kibale Forest National Park takes about 30 minutes to 4 hours, depending on where you are , as chimpanzees like to move from one place to another in search of food.
During the trek, you can see other species of primates, mammals, different kinds of birds, plants, trees, etc. Once you find a chimpanzee, you can spend an hour with them in their natural habitat. So you can learn more about their behavior, habits, lifestyle and daily activities like feeding, hunting, breastfeeding, grooming the young, playing, resting, taking pictures and recording videos.
Kibale Forest National Park is accessible all year round, but the best time to visit the park is during the dry season when the trails are dry and easy to walk. This lasts from December to February, and from June to September. Kibale's wettest area is the north, with an average annual rainfall of about 1700 mm, mainly from March to May and September to November. Average annual temperatures range from 14°C to 27°C, with generally pleasant weather. In the southern part of the park, maximum temperatures and rainfall are low, and the terrain slopes toward the hot Rift Valley floor where forests take over.
