Although the park is very far from the capital Kampala, it is home to a variety of unique wildlife found in a very large population compared to other national parks. Kidepo Valley National Park has his two sections, Narus Valley and Kidepo Valley, where game drives take place.
Kidepo Valley from which the park is named is a section that has a lower density of wildlife compared to the Narus Valley section. The Kidepo Valley is fed by the Kidepo River, a seasonal river that dries up during the dry season, completely drying up the valley and flooding the river during the rainy season. Despite these challenges in the Kidepo Valley region, the site is home to unique rare and endangered wildlife, including beautiful ostriches, cheetahs, nocturnal leopards, kudus, elands and long-eared bats inhabited elsewhere in Uganda. The valley is home to wildlife such as Burchell's zebras, giraffes, waterbucks, oribis, boholi reedbucks, and Jackson hartebeests.
At Narus Valley Section; the valley is studded with savanna meadows and offers clear views of Inselberg in the distance during game drives in the Narus Valley section of the park. Narus Valley is the perfect place for a wildlife safari in Kidepo Valley National Park due to its concentration of wildlife that congregate in the valley during the dry season to drink water and feed the savanna grasslands. Animals to expect at Kidepo Valley National Park include African buffaloes, beautiful gentle elephants, waterbucks, bushbucks, Ugandan humps, zebras, hippos, antelopes, Rothschild giraffes and more. The valley is home to a variety of grazing wildlife that attracts a variety of carnivores such as lions, leopards, hyenas and cheetahs. These animals congregate in valleys to drink water and are easy to spot on game drives in Kidepo National Park
