We are quite sure that most tour companies and travel agencies don't market to children under 15 years of age gorilla trekking experience, and as such, the majority of the visitors or tourists are forced to leave their children who are only 15 years old because they know that they can't see the gorillas. We know that some of the clients decide to leave their reservations to go for the gorillas because they can't leave their children behind, and they decide to leave the safari as well.
However, today we bring you the new opportunity that comes with moving with your child, who is only 15 years old, for the gorilla trekking experience. Yes, it is important to note that under the Currently, Uganda Wildlife guidelines, the minimum age for the currently, gorilla trekking is 15 years, and the child or any person who is of this kind of age is considered a minor and sometimes not as fit to see the gorillas for this great safari experience.
You need to know that at times it is very possible for the children who are 15 years old and older to trek the gorillas under special treatment. The reason why children under 15 years old are denied permission to trek the gorillas is because they are considered to be dangerous and are hard to contain during the gorilla trekking safari experience. For example, a child might see the gorilla and decide to cry, make noise, or run away, and at the end of the day, this may result in the charging of the gorillas, hence causing the unnecessary gorilla attacks since it is from this point that the gorilla families might become wild. Still, children under 15 years old are considered vulnerable to communicable diseases, and these diseases can easily be transmitted from the children to the mountain gorillas since the gorillas almost share the same genes as human beings.
Last but not least, it is important to note that the places where the gorillas stay in Uganda, i.e., Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, are very hard to access for food, and remember that while trekking the gorillas, you need to walk for long distances and spend long hours in the forest, and this might be very difficult for the children who are below 15 years. It is for this reason that the Uganda Wildlife Authority policies at the moment don't allow children who are under 15 years old to trek the gorillas.
However, if you prove by a reasonable doubt that your child can keep calm, fits, and can listen to the instructions, then it is very possible that he or she can as well see the gorillas in Uganda, and this makes it possible to do family gorilla holiday tours in Uganda with children under 15 years old. Once you have your child who is under 15 years old, you will write to us and inform us in advance, and for that, we shall take the necessary documentation to the Uganda Wildlife Authority, and once it is granted, the children will pay the same price as the adult, which is $700, and on the day of gorilla trekking, the children who are under 15 years old will be grouped into adult travelers or trekkers with you, and this is done for easy management. In case the child has not yet managed to go to the gorillas for trekking and hiking, there is an alternative plan where the children are left at the park headquarters and given a guide who will stay at the hotel or lodge, and later they will engage in various activities such as nature walks and primate watching safaris until you come from gorilla trekking and find the kids.
For our family gorilla holiday tours in Uganda with children under the age of 15, there is no maximum age for trekking the gorillas. Even if you have 100 years and you can find yourself fit, you can still trek the gorillas. The gorilla trekking parks of Mgahinga and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park have got porters, and these can be hired to help you carry your luggage while trekking. Still, people can use sendan chairs to lift up the clients who are of old age or who have failed to make it to the gorilla trekking destination, which is wonderful. Gorilla trekking is indeed a lifetime experience, and most of the visitors fight hard to make sure that they reach this milestone with the gorilla trekking experience, which is extremely interesting.
