There are several other significant sites. The best are Mashoza Forest and Ibanda Makera Forest. These are small but significant remnants of riverine forest in the east of Rwanda. Although small these are important forests for birds and still support interesting species including Purple-crested Turaco, Mountain Illadopsis, Grey-winged Robin-Chat; Snowy-crowned Robin-Chat, Red-Headed Bluebill and Red-throated (Peter's) Twinspot. Lake Muhazi to the north east of Kigali is another good location to look for papyrus specialists especially when approached from the eastern end.
Mashoza Forest is approximately tour and a half hours south east from Kigali. Ibanda Makera Forest is approximately four hours east from Kigali. Lake Muhazi (eastern end) approximately 1.5hrs north from Kigali 4x4 essential to explore the area
