The eastern lowland gorillas are one of the largest subspecies of gorillas that live in the tropical rainforests of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Despite their size, the eastern lowland gorillas depend primarily on fruit. These gorillas inhabit Maiko National Park, where you can film them. Other animals to film in Maiko include the humongous forest elephants, peacock fowl bird only found in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the rare Okapi mainly sighted in Ituri.
To film in the Democratic Republic of the Congo you will need filming permits for the crew and permission from the local authorities. Permits are negotiated on a case by case basis. The customs will clear your filming equipment at point of entry. Filming of military, border areas and government buildings is not allowed. Anyone who intends to film in the Democratic Republic of the Congo needs a visa and work permit which they apply for earlier like 4 weeks before making the trip. The DRC visa costs about $100 for one month sinlge entry, 2 months single entry costs $135 and single entry for 6months costs $400. You will need a yellow fever card and an invitation letter. The best time to film in Maiko is during the dry season.
